Erling Haaland has completed a £51.2m transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City on a five-year contract until June 2027.
Haaland began his career at Norwegian club, Bryne before enjoying a successful stint at Molde between 2017-18, where he scored 20 goals in 50 first-team appearances which led to a move to Red Bull Salzburg where he netted 29 goals in 27 appearances.
Borussia Dortmund eventually snapped up the world-class striker in late December 2019 with the Norwegian going on to score 86 goals in 89 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons, alongside 2020-21 DFB Pokal title as he netted twice in a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig in the Final.
Haaland however decided to leave the Bundesliga club last month and has signed for Man City in a £51.2m transfer deal, on a five-year contract until June 2027.
“This is a proud day for me and my family,” commented Haaland as he spoke to mancity.com following confirmation of his move to the club.
The 21 year-old also praised City for providing entertaining football in recent seasons as he added: “I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.”
Haaland also spoke of his excitement at working with manager – Pep Guardiola and players like Kevin De Bruyne, as he continued: “There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions.”
On his personal ambitions at City, Haaland concluded: “I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”
Man City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain meanwhile clarified that Haaland had been on the club’s radar for several years, making the club “delighted” to finally sign him early in the transfer window.
Begiristain went on to hail Haaland as “a huge talent” as he praised the Norwegian’s goalscoring form, as he said: “His goalscoring record is exceptional and his performances at Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League in particular have proved he can succeed at the highest level.
“Erling has everything we want in a striker and we are certain he will excel in this squad and this system.”
Begiristain also noted that despite Haaland’s “remarkable” rise, he is still young so urged caution from supporters but is “… confident he can get even better working with Pep.”
Haaland plays for Norway internationally and has scored 20 goals in 21 appearances since making his international debut in 2019.
