Jordan Ayew, Nathaniel Clyne, James McArthur and James Tomkins have all signed new one-year contract extensions at Crystal Palace until June 2023.
Ayew first joined Palace on loan from Swansea in August 2018 with his stay becoming permanent at the end of that season, with the Ghana international netting 15 goals in 133 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles.
Clyne meanwhile returned to Palace in October 2020 as a free agent following his release from Liverpool, having previously played for the Eagles between 2008-12 and has in total netted just one goal in 171 appearances for the club which came in a 4-2 win at Reading in December 2009.
McArthur will now spend a ninth season at Selhurst Park after having joined from Wigan in September 2014 following the Latics’ failure to claim promotion back to the Premier League the previous season.
Across his eight seasons at Palace, McArthur has netted 19 goals in 249 appearances across all competitions, although his last goal for the club came in April 2019 in a 3-2 victory away at London rivals, Arsenal.
After nine seasons at West Ham between 2007-16, Tomkins moved to Palace in July 2016 where he has scored nine goals in 124 appearances, despite injuries in the last two seasons limiting him to just 18 appearances where he scored once in a 3-1 home win against Everton in December 2021.
Palace Chairman, Steve Parish issued the following statement on the decision to award new contract extensions to Ayew, Clyne, McArthur and Tomkins, as he said:
“It remains of pivotal importance to get the right balance of youth and experience in any Premier League squad, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to ensure that these long-standing and experienced players in Jordan, Nathaniel, James and James remain with us for the upcoming campaign.
“Each of them played an enormous role in the progress we’ve all enjoyed in the last year, and we very much expect similar contributions for the season ahead.”
Palace also confirmed that discussions continue with Cheikhou Kouyate over a contract a renewal with the midfielder’s current contract set to expire on 30 June, having netted three goals in 141 appearances for the club since he joined from West Ham in August 2018.
