Jen Beattie has signed a new contract to stay at Arsenal Women with an expanded role off the pitch.
This contract renewal means that Beattie is heading into a fourth season of her second spell at Arsenal, having previously enjoyed a successful first stint between 2009-13 in North London during which she won one league title plus two FA Cup and League Cup titles apiece.
Across both stints at Arsenal, Beattie has scored 30 goals in 134 appearances across all competitions.
The 31 year-old defender though will now expand her off-pitch role alongside her current playing duties, which will see her become a player mentor for Arsenal’s Academy and work to help the next generation of Arsenal talent develop their game.
Beattie will also provide expertise to Arsenal’s commercial and partnerships teams on an ongoing basis until the conclusion of her new contract.
“I’ve really enjoyed the past three seasons, but I’ve still got so much to achieve as part of this club and I’m excited to extend,” commented Beattie on her aims after the club missed out on several trophies during her second stint at the club.
Beattie also paid tribute to Arsenal for trusting her over years despite going off to play for Montpellier, Manchester City and Melbourne City in-between stints at Arsenal:
“This is the club that gave me my first real opportunity in football – I was an 18-year-old kid coming down here initially and obviously I’ve gone on and played elsewhere in between, but to be a part of it now… it’s close to home and it’s a special club.
“Being a part of the players and the staff we have, I really feel this is a club going in the right direction.”
Arsenal Women Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall last month committed his future to the club and added that he is “very happy” to retain Beattie as he praised the importance of her “experience and professionalism” to the senior squad and believes that she will “make a key contribution” to players in the Academy.
