Former Manchester City striker, Carlos Tevez has announced his retirement from football at the age of 38.
Tevez is best known for his time at Man City between 2009-13 where he scored 74 goals in 148 appearances, as he helped the Citizens win 2010-11 FA Cup plus 2011-12 Premier League and 2012 Community Shield titles.
“I have retired, it is confirmed,” commented Tevez in an interview with America TV after revealing that he had received offers from various clubs including within USA, although he felt that he had “given everything” he had to the sport.
Tevez last played in June 2021 for Boca Juniors where he enjoyed three separate spells but decided to retire after the death of his father in February 2021, as he explained: “Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”
The 38 year-old Argentinean began his career with Boca Juniors in 2001 and spent four seasons at the club before he was signed by Brazil’s Corinthians, prior to a move to West Ham in late August 2006 where he impressed with seven goals in 29 appearances to keep the Hammers up.
Tevez however found himself at the centre of transfer controversy in Summer 2007 after he rejected a move to Inter Milan, which led to him joining Manchester United on a two-year loan deal after a legal wrangle with West Ham and third-party, MSI who owned Tevez’s player rights.
Two years later saw Tevez join Man City in a cross-city switch only for him to endure a difficult player-manager relationship with Roberto Mancini, as the pair clashed on various occasions during their time at City since Mancini’s arrival in December 2009.
After departing City in 2013, Tevez went on to enjoy two further spells with Boca Juniors either side of stints at Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua.
Tevez eventually finished his career with 26 titles in total across six of the seven clubs that he played for across his career, as well as three Youth titles for Argentina’s Under-20 and U23s teams between 2003-04.
Across a 11-year spell playing for Argentina’s senior team, Tevez netted 13 goals in 76 appearances but was omitted from Argentina’s squad for 2014 FIFA World Cup, as La Albiceleste finished as runners-up to Germany.
