2021-22 Premier League: Week 38 – Liverpool vs Wolves

Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield in a huge final-day clash in the 2021-22 Premier League season.

Victory would see Liverpool clinch a second league title in three seasons if Manchester City fail to win elsewhere, whilst Wolves can finish eighth with a win

Mohamed Salah could return for Liverpool if he is declared fully match-fit after he missed Tuesday’s win at Southampton with a groin injury.

Fabinho (hamstring), Virgil Van Dijk (knee) and Joe Gomez (ankle) are also doubtful and could face late fitness tests.

Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report as Romain Saiss (knee), Nelson Semedo (hamstring) and Max Kilman (ankle) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League meetings against Wolves (W10).
  • Wolves have won just one of their last five league visits to Anfield (W1, L4).
  • Liverpool have scored six goals without conceding in their last three meetings against Wolves (W3).
  • Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has converted 22 of his 46 shots on target into goals this season in the Premier League.
  • Raul Jimenez has been involved in nine of Wolves’ 37 league goals this season, having produced six goals and three assists.

Prediction

Following their FA Cup triumph, it wouldn’t of been surprising if Liverpool lost at Southampton on Tuesday evening after conceding the lead, yet Jurgen Klopp’s Reds showed their squad depth to fight back to keep their title hopes alive with a dominant performance.

This title however is out of Liverpool’s hands with them needing to better Man City’s result but they should still fancy their chances at a win here, especially given their home form against Wolves.

Wolves meanwhile just looked decent in their draw against Norwich last weekend but lacked much urgency on attack at times in terms of aggressive pace, whilst their defence weren’t quick enough within certain situations to close gaps down.

This game is therefore Liverpool’s to lose because Wolves have nothing to play for and if they play like they did against Norwich, I just can’t see the visitors getting anything because this should be a comfortable win for Klopp’s Reds.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Wolves

Result: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves
