Vivianne Miedema has signed a new contract to stay with Arsenal Women.

Miedema joined Arsenal from Bayern Munich in May 2017 and has gone to score 117 goals in 144 appearances across all competitions, as well as clinch 2017-18 Women’s League Cup and 2018-19 Women’s Super League titles.

Speaking about her decision to stay at Arsenal as the club look to challenge for major honours, Miedema said: “I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around,” after missing out on this season’s WSL title.

Miedema added that she believes that she will gain more pleasure winning trophies with Arsenal than anywhere else as she added: “I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. And that’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.”

Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall meanwhile described Miedema as “a stellar talent and hugely important player” for Arsenal’s future ambitions, as the club look for major title success next season.

Eidevall also spoke of their joint ambitions to bring major trophies to Arsenal as he commented: “As a club, our ambition is to win titles and compete at the highest level – we know Viv’s own ambitions are the same, and together we will give everything to achieve that.”

Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley meanwhile hailed Miedema’s decision to stay at the club as “an important day” for the club, particularly given Miedema’s talent and goalscoring record in the WSL.

Wheatley also echoed Eidevall’s comments on the club’s ambitions as she added: “We have ambitious targets here and Viv will play a key role in us reaching them moving forward.”

Miedema is also part of the Netherlands National Women’s Team, who will be looking to defend their Women’s Euro crown this summer in England.
