Chelsea look to take a huge step towards securing Champions League qualification at home against Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
Victory would see Chelsea stay third and move six points clear of Arsenal who don’t play until Sunday afternoon, whilst Wolves will stay eighth with a win.
Team News
Andreas Christiansen could return for Chelsea after he missed their last three matches through illness.
Ross Barkley (illness) could return but N’Golo Kante, Jorginho (both knock), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Achilles) and Ben Chilwell (knee) are ruled out.
Wolves will be without Nelson Semedo for the remainder of this season after he suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s defeat at home to Brighton.
Max Kilman (knock) and Daniel Podence (foot) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Chelsea have won just two of their last seven league meetings against Wolves (W2, D3, L2)
- Wolves are yet to win away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in seven meetings in the Premier League (D2, L5).
- There has never been three consecutive goalless draws in this fixture between Chelsea and Wolves across all competitions.
- Chelsea are looking to avoid consecutive Premier League defeats for the first time under Thomas Tuchel.
- Wolves have scored just one goal in their last four away matches (W1, L3), winning 1-0 at Everton in March whilst coincidentally losing the other three matches by that result.
Prediction
With Champions League qualification now looking less assured than this time last month, Chelsea really need to rediscover their spark after just one win in their last four matches, although they were simply let down by poor finishing at Everton amidst lacklustre defending.
Wolves meanwhile seem to have basically downed tools and headed off on their summer holidays early with safety assured, despite claiming just one win in their last five matches which was evident in a lacklustre performance in their defeat to Brighton last weekend amidst great saves from Jose Sa.
This match though is surely Chelsea’s to lose if they’re at their best and Wolves continue to look mentally switched off, despite the latter having a shot at seventh and Europa Conference League qualification but defending has to improve at both ends of the pitch.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Wolves
Result: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves
