Leeds United welcome Manchester City to Elland Road in a crunch Premier League encounter at opposite ends of the table.
Victory will see Leeds stay 16th and move eight points clear of the relegation zone, whereas Man City could start this match looking to regain their title lead if Liverpool win away to Newcastle at lunchtime.
Team News
Jamie Shackleton could return for Leeds after recovering from a calf injury.
Adam Forshaw (knee), Crysencio Summerville (ankle), Tyler Roberts (hamstring) and Patrick Bamford (foot) are absent.
Man City will again be without Kyle Walker (ankle), John Stones (muscle) and Benjamin Mendy (personal) for the trip to Elland Road.
Stat Attack
- Leeds have lost just one of their last five Premier League meetings against Manchester City (W2, D2, L1).
- Man City have avoided defeat in three of their last five league visits to Elland Road (W2, D1, L2).
- No penalties have been awarded in 17 Premier League meetings between Leeds and Man City.
- All 10 of Raphinha’s league goals for Leeds this season have been scored on his left foot.
- Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling are the only two of City’s players who have scored more than one header in the league this season, having both delivered two headed goals apiece.
Prediction
Although they’re not mathematically safe, Leeds can come into this game off the back of a solid point away to Crystal Palace where they defended well to keep a clean sheet, despite getting outclassed in attack amidst wasted chances at both ends.
Man City meanwhile were simply relentlessly ruthless in their midweek Champions League win over Real Madrid with well-worked attacking moves, yet their defence nearly cost them the win and consequential lead with three conceded goals.
Pep Guardiola therefore faces a difficult decision over his team selection because his team are currently in the Premier League title race with an one-point over Liverpool, yet are chasing maiden Champions League glory so will have one eye on Tuesday’s crucial visit to Real.
With that in mind, Leeds certainly have to eye this match as a winnable game if Guardiola fields a weakened team and try and get the opening goal, otherwise this could be a City win if the fringe players step up given the depth of the visiting squad.
Prediction: Leeds United 1-2 Manchester City
Result: Leeds United 0-4 Manchester City
