Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield in a mouth-watering rearranged Premier League encounter.
Victory would see Liverpool move top of the Premier League for 24 hours, whereas Man Utd will stay fifth with a win but move level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham.
Team News
Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report after Saturday’s semi-final victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup, as captain – Jordan Henderson looks to return to the starting line-up along with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.
Man Utd will have Bruno Fernandes available for selection after he started Saturday’s win over Norwich with no side-effects from a car accident on Friday morning.
Luke Shaw (leg), Raphael Varane (muscle), Scott McTominay (foot), Fred (hip), Edinson Cavani (calf) and Mason Greenwood (personal) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last seven league meetings against Manchester United (W4, D3).
- Man Utd have claimed just three points from their last five visits to Anfield (D3, L2), with all three draws finishing 0-0.
- Liverpool have kept clean sheets in three of their last four league clashes against Man Utd.
- Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have scored twice in each of their last four league matches (W3, D1), during which Diogo Jota have scored the first goal for Liverpool in each of their last three matches.
- Six of Man Utd’s last seven league goals have been scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, albeit through two hat-tricks netted at home rather than away.
Prediction
Having comfortably thrashed Man City in the first-half of their FA Cup semi on Saturday with a clinical pressing attack and controlled dictation of the half, Liverpool should come into this game on a high especially after a stubborn second-half defensive display against a City fightback.
Man Utd meanwhile were often wasteful against Norwich except for Cristiano Ronaldo who proved the difference in the end, amidst sloppy defending which the Canaries were able to exploit to nearly snatch a 2-2 draw but Utd need to be at their best to get anything here.
Jurgen Klopp though will rotate his Liverpool squad but I still expect Liverpool to come out and quickly settle into this match controlling the quality, where their relentless quality in their pressing should be enough to expose Utd’s deficiencies in defence.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United
Result: Liverpool 4-0 Manchester United
