2021-22 Premier League: Week 30 – Leicester vs Brentford

Leicester welcome Brentford to the King Power Stadium in an untelevised Super Sunday clash as both teams fight for survival.

Victory would see Leicester climb to tenth in the table, whereas Brentford can climb as high as 13th with a win.

Wilfred Ndidi is a doubt for Leicester after he suffered a knee injury in Thursday’s Europa Conference League defeat at Rennes, despite the Foxes winning the tie on aggregate.

Jonny Evans (thigh), Caglar Soyuncu, Patson Daka (both illness) and Boubakary Soumare (knock) are doubts for this game.

Danny Ward, Ryan Bertrand, Jamie Vardy (all knee), Marc Albrighton (groin) and Timothy Castagne (thigh) remain absent.

Brentford have no fresh injury concerns to report as Josh Dasilva (suspension), Tarique Fosu (hamstring) and Julian Jeanvier (knee) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester won their only previous Premier League clash against Brentford – prevailing 2-1 away in West London in October 2021.
  • Brentford are visiting Leicester in the Premier League for the very first time but have lost just one of their last eight league visits to the Foxes (W3, D4, L1).
  • Youri Tielemans and James Maddison have scored in their last two appearances for Leicester against Brentford.
  • Two of Leicester’s six league goals scored at home in 2022 were scored by Patson Daka.
  • Each of Brentford’s last five league goals have been scored by Ivan Toney, although three of those goals were scored from the penalty spot.

Prediction

Inconsistency seems to be the story of Leicester’s season because after a recent strong mini-run of form, their defensive issues seem to have returned although they were more unlucky to lose at Rennes on Thursday in a closely fought contest.

Brentford meanwhile seem to have weathered their mid-season downward spiral well now that they’re back to winning ways with consecutive wins, although they did require patience to defeat Burnley last weekend despite showing strong aggression in their attacks.

This clash is therefore quite tricky to predict because Leicester overall have the better quality but lack the consistency, whereas Brentford have good away form in league visits to the Foxes and possess the in-form Ivan Toney so tactics and defending will be crucial.

On that note as much as I feel like Brentford might just edge it, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a score draw here.

Prediction: Leicester 1-1 Brentford

Result: Leicester 2-1 Brentford
