2021-22 Premier League: Week 29 – Brighton vs Liverpool

Brighton & Hove Albion face a difficult contest as they host Liverpool at the AMEX Stadium.

Victory could see Brighton go tenth, whereas a win would see Liverpool move to within three points of league leaders  – Manchester City.

Enock Mwepu and Jeremy Sarmiento are in contention to return for Brighton after recovering from hamstring injuries.

Adam Webster (groin) remains ruled out.

Liverpool could be without Ibrahima Konate as he recovers from a knock which kept him out of Tuesday’s Champions League loss against Inter Milan.

Roberto Firmino (muscle) is also set to be available if he is declared match fit by club doctors.

Stat Attack

  • Brighton have claimed five points from their last three meetings against Liverpool (W1, D2).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in four previous Premier League visits to Brighton (W3, D1).
  • Brighton have scored once in three of their four home Premier League matches against Liverpool.
  • Brighton are looking to avoid a fifth consecutive league loss for the first time since a six-match losing streak between February – March 2006.
  • Fabinho has scored in each of Liverpool’s last two away league matches.

Prediction

With four defeats on the bounce, Brighton definitely need a reaction because they seem to have lost focus in recent weeks, which is a huge concern especially given how lacklustre their defending has been on top of wasted attacks.

Liverpool meanwhile have found themselves involved in two scrappy matches in the last week with contrastable results, so fans certainly should expect a reaction here if they can quickly get on the front foot and the opening goal.

Brighton though need to sort out their defending because if they can rediscover their best form, this could be a close game but I can’t see Liverpool not winning this given the difference in form.

Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Result: Brighton 0-2 Liverpool
