Everton look to avoid a giant killing as Frank Lampard’s Toffees face Boreham Wood at Goodison Park in Fifth Round of 2021-22 FA Cup.
Victory would see Everton qualify for the Quarter-Finals for a second consecutive season, whereas Boreham Wood seek to extend their fairytale cup run.
Team News
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ruled out for Everton after he was forced to miss Saturday’s Premier League loss against Manchester City with an adductor injury.
Donny van de Beek is a doubt after suffering cramp on Saturday.
Tom Davies, Fabian Delph (both thigh), Ben Godfrey (hamstring) and Yerry Mina (quad) remain absent.
Boreham Wood could be without Jamal Fyfield if he fails to recover from a hamstring injury in time.
Mark Ricketts (unspecified) and Kane Smith (ankle) are also considered doubts for this match.
Stat Attack
- This is the first-ever meeting between Everton and Boreham Wood in all competitions.
- Boreham Wood are facing Premier League opposition for the very first time across all competitions.
- Everton are unbeaten in six FA Cup ties against Non League opposition excluding replays since WWII (W5, D1).
- Andros Townsend has scored in both rounds of this season’s FA Cup for Everton.
- Boreham Wood have scored ten goals in five FA Cup matches this season without conceding.
Prediction
Consistency seems to be Everton’s biggest weakness at present as evidenced by the fact that they’re a single point above the Premier League relegation zone, yet they come into this match as comfortable favourites given the superior quality.
Frank Lampard however needs his Toffees to deliver a clinical attacking display which looks a big ask based on their last two performances, although they did show great movement going forward on Saturday on top of excellent defending as an unit at the back.
Boreham Wood though can’t be written off at their absolute peril because they were clinical against Bournemouth in the last round, whilst defending with all their might against the more dominant Cherries which should them in good stead here.
I however sadly can’t see the Wood’s fairytale run continuing here because for all of their faults, Everton should have enough for the win somehow even if it is a grinder of a victory more than their fans would wish for.
Prediction: Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
Result: Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood
