Hull City Part Company With Grant McCann

Hull City have announced that the club has parted company with manager, Grant McCann.

McCann joined Hull in June 2019 after Nigel Adkins resigned from his role following a 18-month tenure at the MKM Stadium, with McCann enduring a disastrous first season as the Tigers were relegated from the Championship.

McCann’s Tigers however rebounded with promotion from League One last season before guiding the club to 19th in the table at time of his dismissal, despite having guided Hull to huge victories over Blackburn and Bournemouth in the last week after a takeover from Acun Medya.

Explaining the decision to sack McCann, Hull City Chairman and Owner, Acun Ilıcalı said: “Grant has done an excellent job for this football club in difficult circumstances, most specifically during the takeover process, and for that I offer my sincere thanks.”

“These matters are never easy and are more often than not protracted. During the process, Grant has always remained professional and fully focused on the team, and will forever be a friend of the Tigers. I’m sure Grant will be successful in whatever his next challenge is.” added Ilıcalı.

Ilıcalı though iterated that with a new era at Hull now underway following his takeover, it is “time for change” as the club look to build “an incredibly exciting time for the club” moving forward.

Offering fans a glimpse of what they can look forward to over coming months and into the future, Ilıcalı said: “I have a philosophy and a belief that our project should start as we mean to carry on and that involves having my team in place.

“I understand the timing may look odd, after two good wins, but I wouldn’t be fair or honest if I merely waited for a defeat to change manager. That benefits nobody. I will continue to be transparent with you, our fans.”

McCann’s Assistant Head Coach, Cliff Byrne has also departed the club ‘with immediate effect’ with the club issuing the following statement: ‘We would like to thank Grant and Cliff for their commitment and dedication throughout their time at the club and wish them both well for the future.’

A new Head Coach will be named in due course.
