Cardiff City have signed Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City until end of 2021-22 season.

This loan move for Doyle comes following the termination of his loan stint at Hamburger SV where he only made six appearances after previously making seven senior appearances for Man City.

In a statement announcing their decision to send Doyle on loan to Cardiff, Man City said: ‘The midfielder spent the first half of the campaign playing for Hamburg in Germany but will now head to the Championship side to continue his development.’

Speaking about his decision to sign for Cardiff on loan, Doyle said: “I’m very happy. The lads have been brilliant and welcomed me into the group.

“It is an exciting move and it is good for my development. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead. Hopefully we can jump up the table. I’ve heard a lot about the fans and I’m excited to play in front of them.

“I’m here to learn, help the team, and to add goals and assists too.”

Cardiff manager, Steve Morison meanwhile added that Doyle is a midfielder who he believes will be able to help the Bluebirds improve in the Championship table.

Morison also spoke of high praise for Doyle who has been captain for City and every youth level of England based on various reports, as he said: “I’ve had really good reports. He has captained at every youth level with England and did the same with Manchester City.

“He comes from a family of football legends as well. We’ve been entrusted by Man City to take one of their players and get him some experience. It works well for both parties.

“He’s an excellent player and one I think the fans will really enjoy watching.”

Doyle will wear the number 22 shirt and could make his debut for Cardiff away to Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the Severnside derby on Saturday 22 January 2022 in the Championship.
