2021-22 Sky Bet Championship: Week 27 Roundup

A packed matchweek featuring two midweek rounds of rearranged fixtures plus a near-full weekend match list saw a change of lead at top of 2021-22 Sky Bet Championship.

Fulham rose to the summit after Marco Silva’s Cottagers found themselves victorious in all three matches, having had to play three games within this matchweek.

Harry Wilson produced a brace and two assists as Fulham thrashed Reading 7-0 away at the Madejski Stadium to go second, before a pair of 6-2 home wins over Bristol City and Birmingham City eventually sent them top.

Bournemouth consequently dropped to second after Kal Naismith fired in an injury-time winner for Luton, as the Hatters snatched a dramatic last-gasp win after initially blowing a 2-0 lead as Emiliano Marcondes and Morgan Rogers equalised for the Cherries.

Joe Rothwell’s 14th minute strike fired Blackburn to a narrow away win at Cardiff on Saturday but missed a chance to go second, having suffered a 2-0 midweek defeat at Hull after Ryan Longman provided assists for George Honeyman and Tom Eaves.

Charlie Austin’s 89th minute header saw QPR defeat West Brom 1-0 at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium to leapfrog Valerien Ismael’s Baggies into fourth.

Middlesbrough rounded out the top six after Matt Crooks’ comeback brace sealed a 2-1 home victory over Reading, with the Royals then proceeding to lose 2-0 at home to Luton in their second rearranged midweek match.

Down in the relegation zone, Barnsley’s home clash against Blackpool was postponed which enabled Derby to move off the foot of the Championship, as Tom Lawrence struck twice for Wayne Rooney’s Rams in a 2-0 home win over Sheffield United.

Peterborough United remain third bottom after Matty Godden’s brace helped Coventry to a 4-1 away win over the Posh at London Road.

Elsewhere, Lewis Grabban’s injury-time tap-in fired Nottingham Forest to a narrow win at Millwall as Steve Cooper’s team remain unbeaten in 2022.

Flynn Downes’ equaliser rescued Swansea a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield after Daniel Sinani had fired the Terriers in front from a 15th minute rebound strike.

Preston scraped two points from two home games in this matchweek as Scott Hogan rescued Birmingham City a point on Saturday, before the Lilywhites recovered from two goals with ten men to draw 2-2 at home to Sheffield United on Tuesday evening.

Finally, Stoke sit eighth after Sam Clucas provided assists for Jacob Brown and Tom Ince in a 2-0 win at Hull on Sunday.
