PREMA Retains Arthur Leclerc For 2022 Formula Three Season

PREMA have retained Arthur Leclerc for the 2022 Formula Three season.

Leclerc first joined PREMA in 2020 and enjoyed a successful rookie season together in Formula Regional European Championship where he finished second, just 16 points behind eventual champion – Gianluca Petecof.

2021 saw the 21 year-old Monegasque stay with the Italian outfit as he graduated to F3 where he finished tenth in the drivers’ standings with two wins plus a pole position’ albeit as the worst-performing PREMA driver across the campaign.

Speaking about his decision to stay with the team for a second consecutive F3 season, Leclerc said: “I am extremely happy to continue the work we started with PREMA Racing in the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship.”

Leclerc also spoke about his reflection on last season and his aim to apply his lessons from 2021 to this season to push for the title, as he added: “I think we did a good job last year, and 2022 will be a good opportunity to put together everything we have learned so far.”

PREMA Team Principal, Rene Rosin meanwhile feels “great” to have retained Leclerc for a second F3 season where he will be joined by rookie – Ollie Bearman plus a yet unannounced driver.

Speaking about what fans can expect from Leclerc this season as F3 returns to a two-race weekend format, Rosin said: “I am sure that he will carry on the progress we saw in 2021 when he showed he had the potential to be a frontrunner.

“Last year’s experience with the challenging three-race weekends will definitely help him navigate the events with a great focus, which will surely benefit the whole team.“

As part of pre-season preparation in agreement with Ferrari of who Leclerc is a member of their Driver Academy, Leclerc will race in Formula Regional Asia for Mumbai Falcons whilst Bearman will also drive for the team albeit at final two rounds in place of Sebastian Montoya.
