2021-22 Premier League: Week 13 Roundup

Chelsea continue to sit atop of the Premier League following a hectic weekend as all 20 teams battled against Storm Arwen, with just one match ultimately falling foul of the difficult weather conditions.

Chelsea remain top of the table after they fought from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, as Jorginho conceded the opening goal after letting Jadon Sancho intercept him and score before then atoning with a 69th minute penalty after Aaron Wan Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva.

Goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho saw Manchester City defeat fourth-placed West Ham 2-1 at the Etihad in snowy conditions to stay second, despite Manuel Lanzini netting a consolatory injury-time goal for the Hammers.

Liverpool remain in third but now two points off the summit after Diogo Jota struck twice in a ruthless 4-0 thrashing of Southampton at Anfield, as Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk also found the net for the Reds.

Down in the relegation zone, Newcastle remain rock bottom after suffering a 2-0 defeat at fifth-placed Arsenal after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli found the net for the Gunners in a ten minute spell through the second half.

Norwich remain second-bottom after Dean Smith’s Canaries wasted numerous chances in a goalless draw against Wolves at Carrow Road.

Burnley’s clash against Tottenham was postponed just 50 minutes before kick-off, due to heavy snow battering Turf Moor just mere hours ahead of the match which means that Sean Dyche’s Clarets remain third bottom.

Elsewhere, James Maddison opened the scoring and provided two assists for Jamie Vardy’s brace as Leicester defeated Watford 4-2 in blizzard like conditions at the King Power Stadium.

Goals from Matt Targett and John McGinn saw Aston Villa claim a 2-1 win to condemn Crystal Palace to a first home loss in the Premier League this season at Selhurst Park, despite Marc Guehi’s consolatory injury-time goal for the Eagles.

Brentford ended their five-match winless run with a narrow 1-0 home win over Everton as Ivan Toney fired in a 24th minute winner from the penalty spot, after Andros Townsend had fouled Frank Onyeka with a high challenge.

Finally, Leeds moved three points clear of the relegation zone after digging deep to snatch a goalless draw away at Brighton.
