2021-22 Premier League: Week 13 – Manchester City vs West Ham

Manchester City welcome West Ham United to Etihad Stadium in a blockbuster untelevised Super Sunday clash in the title race.

Victory would lift Man City back up to second whereas a win would move fourth-placed West Ham level on points with Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.

Phil Foden is a doubt for Man City after missing Wednesday’s Champions League win over PSG with a knock.

Jack Grealish (knock) could also feature but Kevin De Bruyne (Coronavirus), Ferran Torres (foot), Liam Delap (ankle) and Benjamin Mendy (personal) are still ruled out.

West Ham have no fresh injury concerns to report after Thursday’s Europa League win at Rapid Wien, as Angelo Ogbonna remains absent with a knee injury.

Stat Attack

  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 11 league meetings against West Ham (W9, D2).
  • West Ham are winless in their last five visits to the Etihad Stadium (L5).
  • Michail Antonio netted once in each of West Ham’s two meetings against Manchester City last season.
  • Three of Bernardo Silva’s four league goals for Man City this season have been scored on his left foot.
  • Michail Antonio has been involved in nine of West Ham’s 23 league goals this season with six goals and three assists.

Having dominated their last league game against Everton with incredible control, Man City took that confidence forward into their midweek win over PSG because they were disciplined and organised, complete with great spirit for a comeback win despite wasting chances throughout again.

West Ham on the other hand just lacked a final touch in their league defeat to Wolves last weekend yet they managed to recover with a clinical away midweek win at Rapid Wien, where they took their chances whilst limiting their Austrian hosts to just three shots on target.

This game though has a lot riding on it because City cannot risk slipping up here and undoing their strong progress in recent weeks, whereas West Ham made eight changes in midweek so will come here looking to cause serious issues as they seek to relaunch themselves into the title mix.

Man City however do look unbeatable but if David Moyes’ Hammers can press hard in midfield and deliver a clinical attack when chances arise like they did against Liverpool three weeks ago, I can see a surprise draw coming otherwise this should be a home win.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-1 West Ham

Result: Manchester City 2-1 West Ham
