2021-22 UEFA Europa League Group Stage: Week Four – Ferencvaros vs Celtic

Ferencvaros welcome Celtic to Ferencvaros Stadion, Budapest, Hungary, in a huge Group G clash in 2021-22 UEFA Europa League.

Victory could see Ferencvaros climb to third whereas Celtic can move six points clear of their Hungarian opposition with a win and end Ferencvaros’ knockout qualification hopes in the process.

Ferencvaros have no fresh injury concerns to report as David Siger remains absent with a knee injury.

Celtic will be without Carl Starfelt after the defender suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s goalless draw against Livingston.

Christopher Julien (knee), Greg Taylor (shoulder), Tomas Rogic (hamstring) and Karamoko Dembele (ankle) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Ferencvaros have won just one of two previous meetings against Celtic in all UEFA competitions (W1, L1).
  • Celtic are visiting Ferencvaros for the very first time in all competitions.
  • Ferencvaros have scored first in three of their five home matches in all European competitions this season (W3, L2).
  • Celtic have scored first in all four away matches in European competitions this season.
  • Under the watch of referee – Fabio Verissimo in two matches last season, Celtic emerged victorious on both occasions with wins over Riga and Lille.

Prediction

With no points on the board, Ferencvaros simply cannot afford to lose here otherwise they will be eliminated but this looks a tough test especially after they were outplayed in Glasgow two weeks ago by a disciplined but dominant Celtic team so finishing will be crucial for their hopes.

Celtic meanwhile will be slightly disappointed to have been held by Livingston on Saturday but this is a huge chance to hit back because with Bayer Leverkusen facing Real Betis elsewhere, Celtic can really launch themselves back into the knockout qualification mix if they repeat their home display here.

This is the first time that Ferencvaros and Celtic have met at the former team’s home ground though so I am expecting this to be a tougher match than many might expect, although I can see the Hoops winning this if they repeat their quality from two weeks ago.

Prediction: Ferencvaros 1-2 Celtic

Result: Ferencvaros 2-3 Celtic
