2021-22 Premier League: Week Nine – Leeds vs Wolves

Leeds United look to stay above the relegation zone as they welcome Wolves to Elland Road.

Victory could lift Leeds up to 14th if Crystal Palace, Southampton and Watford all lose elsewhere, whilst Wolves can go as high as fourth with a win depending on results elsewhere.

Kalvin Phillips is again ruled out for Leeds with a calf injury, which forced him to withdraw from the England squad for this month’s internationals then miss last weekend’s loss at Southampton.

Raphinha is set to be in contention for selection after making a full recovery from a recurring injury which has affected the Brazilian in recent weeks.

Robin Koch (groin), Luke Ayling (knee), Junior Firpo (muscle) and Patrick Bamford (ankle) are ruled out.

Wolves manager, Bruno Lage could welcome Francisco Trincao back into the matchday squad after missing their 3-2 away win at Aston Villa due to testing positive for Coronavirus.

Jonny, Pedro Neto (both knee), Yerson Mosquera and Hugo Bueno (both hamstring) remain ruled out.

Prediction

Having produced their worst performance in a long time with no shots on target last weekend at Southampton, Leeds now need a huge reaction because if they lose this match then they are definitely in a relegation scrap.

Wolves meanwhile delivered an impressive late fightback to defeat Villa last weekend because despite wasting chances amidst excellent saves from Sa, they maintained their work rate with a never say die attitude to snatch an unlikely win from two goals down.

This game though should be a decent contest because both teams possess the quality to be punching higher up the table, although Leeds is missing some key players which could well be the difference if Wolves can get on the front foot and deliver another spirited display.

Prediction: Leeds 1-2 Wolves

Result: Leeds 1-1 Wolves
