2021-22 Premier League: Week Five – Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds look to go top of the table.

With Manchester United and Chelsea not in action until Sunday (19 September) and Everton playing on Saturday (18 September) evening, victory will see Liverpool go top for at least a few hours.

Crystal Palace meanwhile could go as high as ninth with a win depending on results elsewhere.

Divock Origi is a doubt for Liverpool after suffering cramps in Tuesday’s Champions League win over AC Milan.

Neco Williams (foot) is a doubt but Harvey Elliott (ankle) and Roberto Firmino (hamstring) are ruled out.

Palace have no fresh injury concerns to report as Jeffrey Schlupp is ruled out with a hamstring injury, which forced him to miss last weekend’s win against Tottenham.

Eberechi Eze and Nathan Ferguson (both Achilles) remain absent.

Prediction

After recording a routine victory at Leeds last weekend, Liverpool were certainly made to fight for their midweek Champions League win over AC Milan because their attack was clinical, yet their defence were caught out on pace and positioning twice which Palace surely need to target given their ability.

Palace also comes into this match off the back of a disciplined pressing performance in a surprise win over Tottenham, in which they were fierce on the flanks although Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will be difficult to get past here.

Tactics though looks set to be key because Liverpool will be favourites here but Palace are continuously improving under Patrick Vieira, so will pose a difficult test if able to impose their style on this match.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Crystal Palace

Result: Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace
