West Ham have signed Kurt Zouma from Chelsea in a £25.6m deal on a four-year contract until June 2025.
Zouma’s cross-London move sees the French centre-back bring a seven-and-a-half year stay at Stamford Bridge to a close, in which he scored ten goals in 151 appearances across all competitions for the Blues and won five titles, including two Premier League titles and last season’s Champions League.
Speaking on his decision to make the local switch from West London across to East London, Zouma revealed that he was “very happy and very proud” to complete his move which sees him remain in the UK capital despite change of clubs.
Zouma went on to praise manager, David Moyes for his enthusiasm in wanting him to join, saying: “My conversation with the manager went very fast. I just felt like he really wanted me to come and join the team, especially a good team that’s started the season very, very well.”
West Ham finished sixth last season and at one stage looked in contention for a top four finish ahead of Chelsea, which Zouma believes is beneficial in providing “the team a lot of confidence to improve this year – and I want to help the team do that.”
Moyes in turn revealed that he was “delighted” to sign Zouma – his main defensive target this summer, explaining: “He is a player we have tracked for some time, and we have taken great care and diligence to make the transfer happen. He was always our first choice and I am very happy that he is now our player.”
The ex Everton and Manchester United manager went on to add that Zouma would be joining a “hungry and ambitious” squad, who are aiming for another strong season despite having the addition of Europa League football to their schedule this campaign.
Moyes also noted what Zouma would bring to the club, as he said: “He is a strong, powerful player with great experience in the Premier League while he is also at a good age for a centre-back.
“Kurt has enjoyed great success at Chelsea and I can see that he is determined to continue being successful here at the London Stadium.”
Zouma has also made eight international appearances for France in which he has scored just once.
