Toni Duggan Returns to Everton On Two-Year Contract

Toni Duggan has announced that she is returning to Everton on a two-year contract until June 2023.

Duggan played for Everton between 2007-13 where she netted 25 goals in 58 appearances across all competitions, before switching to Manchester City for four seasons followed by a spell in Spain playing for Barcelona then Atletico Madrid.

Speaking to evertontv, Duggan spoke of having “an amazing feeling” about accepting the opportunity “to be back home” at the club where she started her career and helped to 2007-08 Women’s Premier League Cup and 2009-10 FA Cup.

During her time away from the Toffees, Duggan has played in the Women’s Champions League and after speaking with Everton bosses, she iterated that the competition is an important target, commenting: “It’s so important for the Club, the team, the manager. It’s everyone’s objective”.

Duggan therefore believes that having played Champions League football throughout the majority of her career, achieving qualification with Everton for the first time since participating in 2010-11 edition “would be a dream come true” for her.

Everton Women Sporting and Commercial Director, Sarvar Ismailov meanwhile is “delighted” to welcome Duggan back to the club, noting her “winning mentality” as a huge quality that she will bring to the women’s team this season amongst other qualities.

Manager, Willie Kirk meanwhile believes that having played for three of Europe’s modern giants, Duggan will be able to put her “valuable experience” to strong use to benefit the team as “a big game-player” coupled with her “big personality”

Duggan is the second player after Kenza Dali to sign for Everton’s women team this summer as the Toffees undergo huge investment across their two senior teams, with Rafa Benitez having replaced Carlo Ancelotti as manager of the men’s side last week

Sandy Maclver meanwhile signed a new two-year contract until June 2023 back in March, whilst Claire Emslie sealed a permanent switch in late December 2020.
