Everton Confirm Release of 13 Players at End of 2020-21 Season

Everton have announced that 13 players will be released at end of June 2021 upon expiry of their contracts.

Joshua King, Yannick Bolasie and Muhamed Besic will all depart upon expiry of their contracts on 30 June along with Theo Walcott, who has already signed a permanent contract with Southampton.

King’s departure comes after just five months at Goodison Park in which he managed 11 appearances in all competitions with no goals.

Yannick Bolasie will leave after five seasons with the Toffees despite failing to feature in their last three campaigns in all competitions, having endured four tough loan spells at Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Sporting CP and Middlesbrough in the last three seasons.

During his overall spell at Everton, Bolasie netted two goals in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Muhamed Besic leaves the club after eight seasons on Merseyside since arriving in Summer 2014 despite failing to score in 56 appearances across all competitions,

Besic however has been out of favour since 2017-18 season with the Bosnian defensive midfielder spending 18 months on loan at Middlesbrough, where he netted three goals in 56 appearances in all competitions before scoring once in 13 appearances on loan at Sheffield United for 2019-20 campaign.

This season saw Besic make no appearances for Everton’s first team despite being named in their 25-man squad for the second half of the campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, who has since departed for Real Madrid earlier this week.

Robin Olsen meanwhile will return to AS Roma following the expiration of his loan deal, having made 11 appearances for the Toffees across Premier League and cup competitions this season.

Everton have also confirmed that Josh Bowler, Dennis Adeniran, Matthew Pennington, Con Ouzounidis, Callum Connolly and Bobby Carroll will be released from their Under-23s squad, despite Adeniran, Pennington and Connolly spending the season out on loan at EFL clubs.

Nathan Broadhead, Ryan Astley and Joe Anderson meanwhile have been offered new contracts and Kyle John’s contract has been extended for another season.

In Everton’s Under-18s squad, Daniel Lowey, Jack McIntyre and Dylan Thompson have all been released whilst Liam Higgins’ scholarship has been extended for a third year.
