‘Champions of Europe’ – Social Media Reaction to Chelsea’s Second Champions League Title

Roundup of social media reaction to Chelsea’s second UEFA Champions League title, following their 1-0 triumph over Manchester City.

Kai Havertz fired in a 42nd minute winner from Mason Mount’s long through ball as Thomas Tuchel’s Blues delivered a disciplined defensive performance, which eventually clinched them a second Champions League title.

Many players soon afterwards took to Twitter to share their celebrations and thoughts, with club captain – Cesar Azpilicueta simply tweeting ‘Champions of Europe’ along with a picture of players celebrating with the trophy.

Goalscorer, Havertz meanwhile found him apologising on Twitter for swearing in his post-match interview with BT Sport.

Mount meanwhile was in a reflective mood as he tweeted a throwback to his childhood alongside him celebrating the trophy.

Several other Chelsea players including; Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben Chilwell and Billy Gilmour meanwhile tweeted of their celebrations post-match.

Despite losing their Women’s Champions League Final just a fortnight ago, several of Chelsea’s women’s squad sent messages of congratulations, starting with Erin Cuthbert.

Cuthbert also tweeted a cheeky reference regarding N’Golo Kante’s performance and the lyrics of ‘I’m a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world’ with her own spin.

Other Blues players sent simple congratulatory messages, including Carly TelfordΒ  and ………..

Chelsea and England Lionesses striker, Bethany England meanwhile was simply in awe of Kante’s ‘phenomenal’ performance, as she tweeted her top three players plus an explanation of her thoughts on the Frenchman’s display.

Several ex players also took to Twitter to share their delight at Chelsea’s triumph, including Didier Drogba and Ramires who were both part of the Blues’ 2012 winning team.

Ex Chelsea, defender, Robert Huth meanwhile hailed Kante’s performance as worthy of making him the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT).

Derby County defender, Curtis Davies however held higher praise for Mount who just two years ago had lost a Play-Off Final with the Rams yet now is a Champions League winner.

Further praise also flooded in from across the football world from stars like Gary Lineker and ex Man City star, Nigel de Jong.

Ex Lionesses goalkeeper, Siobhan Chamberlain meanwhile tweeted a sideways view of Chelsea’s triumph, as she poked fun at the close proximity of Fulham to Chelsea in West London, yet its the Blues who have enjoyed the bigger success.
