Nuno Espirito Santo to Depart Wolves via ‘mutual agreement’

Wolves have announced that Nuno Espirito Santo will depart the club at end of 2020-21 season.

Since arriving in Summer 2017, Nuno has kept the club in the Premier League for the last three seasons after guiding Wolves to promotion from the Championship in his first season at Molineux.

Nuno also guided the club to the Quarter-Finals of last season’s Europa League for the first time since 1971-72 season.

Speaking on his success over the last four seasons with ‘positive change’ as he prepares to bow out after Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, Nuno said; “We achieved our goals, we did it with passion and we did it together.”

Nuno also thanked supporters for their support in helping the team ‘reach new heights’ whilst embracing the team with warmth and cannot wait to ‘share one last special moment together’ as fans return for their final home game on Sunday 23 May 2021.

Thanks were also placed on record for staff for their efforts but Nuno reserved acknowledgement for his players with “… their loyalty, their dedication, hard work and talent. They are the ones who have made this amazing journey possible for us.”

Wolves Executive Chairman, Jeff Shi praised Nuno for bringing ‘incredibly special moments’ which won’t be forgotten, although Shi admitted that ‘every chapter comes to an end.’

Shi also praised Nuno for his hard work and efforts to help stabilise Wolves in the top-flight, commenting; “His loyalty and dedication over the last four years has been immeasurable, and we cannot thank him enough for the progress he has made for Wolves.”

Shi also iterated that their final game of this season will now be more than one ‘very special day’, as the club welcome fans back for the first time since March 2020 and prepare to give Nuno ‘a fitting goodbye’ befitting of a manager who will always be a ‘important part of Wolves history.’
