Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has earned a shock recall to Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Euro 2020.
Benzema hasn’t played for the reigning world champions since November 2015 as he remains suspected of involvement in a sex tape scandal, of which he is due to stand trial with no date officially set at time of writing.
The French striker however has been recalled following a strong season for Real Madrid, which saw him voted the best French Player in a foreign league by France’s professional football player union.
Seven Premier League players have also been called up with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko selected for the squad, alongside Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud.
Everton’s Lucas Digne and Manchester United’s Paul Pogba have also been named in the 26-man squad.
2016 runners-up, France will kick off their Group F campaign against Germany on 15 June 2021 (8pm UK Time), before facing Hungary and Portugal on 19 and 23 June at 3pm and 8pm UK Time respectively.
