Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Manchester City to the AMEX Stadium in the penultimate matchweek of 2020-21 Premier League season.
Victory would see Brighton improve to 15th for at least 23 hours, whereas Man City look to extend their record-breaking winning away run in the league to 13 matches.
Team News
Joel Veltman is a doubt for Brighton after missing Saturday’s draw against West Ham with a calf injury.
Davy Propper is another doubt with an ankle injury which kept him out at the weekend.
Lewis Dunk and Neal Maupay are serving the second of two match bans and join Tariq Lamptey (thigh) and Solly March (knee) on the sidelines.
Man City remain without Kevin De Bruyne as the Belgian midfielder continues to struggle with muscle fatigue.
Sergio Aguero (muscle) is also ruled out.
Stat Attack
- Brighton have lost all seven previous Premier League meetings against Manchester City (L7).
- Man City have scored 11 goals in three previous Premier League trips to Brighton and conceded just once (W3).
- Six of City’s 11 away goals at the AMEX Stadium have come from their strikers, with Raheem Sterling netting three of those goals in their last visit in July 2020.
- Danny Welbeck’s strike for Brighton in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham was his 50th goal in 247 Premier League appearances.
- No Man City player has hit the woodwork on more occasions this season than Kevin De Bruyne who has found the frame with four of his 78 shots.
Prediction
Brighton will be relieved to be safe given their record in this fixture yet they surprisingly delivered a disciplined defensive effort for much of Saturday’s draw, despite offering lacking any end product to attacks which has to improve here.
Man City meanwhile certainly were made to work for Friday’s win at Newcastle because the Magpies gave them real issues on the break, although City eventually were more clinical with their finishing with great spirit to fight back from behind twice.
On that note, I am expecting this to be a quiet affair but City should have enough for a routine win.
Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Manchester City
Result: Brighton 3-2 Manchester City
