With a 6-2 lead from the first leg, Manchester United look to seal their place in the 2020-21 Europa League final, as they visit AS Roma in the second leg of their semi-final at Stadio Olimpico.
Entering this leg with a 6-2 deficit from the first leg, Roma need to score at least four goals without conceding to advance via away goals rule although a fifth goal will be required if Man Utd score just once.
Man Utd meanwhile know that any result will do as long as they don’t concede four or more goals.
Team News
Pedro Rodriguez could return for AS Roma if he passes a late fitness test after a hamstring injury kept him out of the first leg.
Nicolò Zaniolo (knee), Riccardo Calafiori, Jordan Veretout (both muscle), Stephan El Shaarawy (knock), Pau Sabata (shoulder), Leonardo Spinazzola (hamstring) and Marash Kumbulla (hip) are all ruled out.
Man Utd have no fresh injury concerns to report after Sunday’s cancelled clash against Liverpool, as Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain absent with knee injuries.
Stat Attack
- As Roma are winless in their last six meetings against Manchester United in all competitions (D1, L5),
- Man Utd are unbeaten in two of three previous away trips to AS Roma (W1, D1, L1), despite scoring in all three visits.
- Borja Mayoral has scored four goals in three of AS Roma’s six home Europa League games this season.
- Five of Man Utd’s seven ‘away’ goals in the Europa League knockouts have come after half time.
- Man Utd won their only previous clash refereed by Felix Brych this season, defeating AC Milan away in the Last 16 Stage.
Prediction
With this tie all but over, Roma need to deliver a disciplined attacking performance if they’re to stand any chance of scoring four goals but that is a huge ask especially for a team who are set to play their last European game under Paulo Fonseca’s management.
Man Utd meanwhile have had a week off through no fault of their own due to fans protest postponing their domestic match on Sunday, so they should come into this match ready to seal their spot in the final if can keep it tight defensively.
On that note, this should be a good game if it is anything like the first leg but I am going for a draw because this tie is as good as over just like their league campaigns, so I think we might well see squad rotations from both clubs.
Prediction: AS Roma 1-1 Manchester United
Result: AS Roma 3-2 Manchester United (Man Utd win 8-5 on aggregate!!)
