Charouz have announced that Enzo Fittipaldi and Logan Sargeant will race for the team as they complete their 2021 driver line-up.
Sargeant switches from PREMA as he looks to mount another title challenge after finishing third in 2020 standings, making him the highest-placed returning driver on the grid from last season.
The 20 year-old however encountered budget issues during the off-season caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, which left Sargeant pondering a switch to sportscar racing and unsure of “… if I was ever going to get in a race car again.”
Sargeant therefore feels “honored” to secure the Charouz driver and has vowed to try and deliver on their confidence in him, saying; “I’m going to give it everything I have to put the car at the front and keep trying to build within the team.”
Enzo Fittipaldi also returns to F3 after finishing 15th overall last season as he switches to the Czech Republic team from HWA Racelab, with his drive coming as a surprise after not participating in any of the pre-season tests.
Speaking on his return to F3, Fittipaldi said; “I am really happy for the chance that team owner Antonin Charouz and team manager Bob Vavřík gave me.
The Brazilian however is wary that the season opener in Barcelona, Spain, this weekend (7-9 May) is set to “definitely be a challenge since I didn’t do any of the pre-season testing but I will do my best with this opportunity.”
Both drivers will join Reshad De Gerus who steps up from Formula Renault Eurocup where he only scored eight points last season for Arden.
De Gerus admitted that he is “hugely excited” about graduating into F3 but is aware that this series will be “… the biggest challenge in my racing career so far.”
The French driver also acknowledged how strong the field will be this season and is pleased to have two “experienced” teammates in Sargeant and Fittipaldi to help him learn the ropes and get up to speed quickly.
Team owner, Antonin Charouz confirmed that he is “really satisfied” with his driver lineup for this F3 season, which contains a mixture of talent and knowledge of the series with Sargeant already establishing himself in pre-season in not only speed but car set-ups too.
Charouz also praised Fittipaldi as “a racer with true potential” and has vowed to work to unlock the Brazilian’s best qualities, whilst hoping that the pair will be important reference points for De Gerus who joins the series as a rookie.
