Emiliano Buendia Crowned Championship Player of Year at 2020-21 EFL Awards

Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia was crowned the Championship’s Player of the Season at the 2020-21 EFL Awards, honouring the best players and achievements of this campaign.

Buendia has impressed for Norwich this season scoring 14 goals and producing 16 assists in 37 league appearances en route to sealing automatic promotion, as he beat Canaries teammate – Teemu Pukki and Brentford’s Ivan Toney to the award.

The Argentinean also scooped Norwich’s Player of the Season award earlier today following a fan vote.

Reading’s Michael Olise prevented a double for Norwich as the Royals midfielder clinched the EFL Young Player of the Season gong, in which the 19 year-old saw off competition from Max Aarons and Blackburn’s Harvey Elliot.

Norwich however saw all three of their player nominees selected in the Championship Team of 2020-21 Season XI, alongside Grant Hanley whilst Daniel Farke was named Championship Manager of the Year.

League One’s top goalscorer, Jonson Clarke-Harris was crowed the third tier’s Player of the Season after netting 29 goals for Peterborough, having fended off tough competition from Sunderland’s Charlie Wyke and Hull’s George Honeyman.

All three nominees also featured in the League One XI of the Season in which Grant McCann was voted League One’s Manager of the Season.

Cambridge United’s Paul Mullins was crowned League Two’s Player of the Season after scoring 29 goals in 44 league appearances, fending off competition from his teammate – Wes Hoolahan and Forest Green Rovers’ Jamille Matt.

Mullins and Hoolahan also secured spots in the League Two XI of 2020-21 Season as Cheltenham Town’s Michael Duff was voted Manager of the Season in the fourth tier.

Tonight also saw all three Apprentice of the Year winners receive their rewards, with the following emerging victorious across the Championship, League One and League Two;

  • Championship – Will Trueman (Sheffield Wednesday)
  • League One – Lewis Johnson (MK Dons)
  • League Two – Felix Miles (Cheltenham Town)

Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers’ James Coppinger was awarded with the Sir Tom Finney Award for 21 years service to football, ahead of his retirement at the end of this season.

Cardiff’s Will Vaulks was crowned the overall PFA Players in the Community winner, as he won the gong for a second time after seeing off Bristol Rovers’ Alex Rodman and Newport County’s Matty Dolan.

MK Dons claimed the Moment of 2020-21 Season Award for Dean Lewington’s 800th appearance for the club.

Port Vale were crowned as the EFL’s Community Club of the Year for their hard work throughout the pandemic supporting their local community, whilst Club President – John Rudge was awarded the Contribution to League Football gong for his effort this season.

Bradford’s Lee Novak won the Goal of the Season award for his bicycle kick away at Grimsby Town on 22 December 2020.
