2020-21 Premier League: Week 32 – Manchester United vs Burnley

Manchester United welcome Burnley to Old Trafford in the second of this weekend’s double headed Super Sunday.

Victory would see Man Utd cut their deficit to title rivals – Manchester City down to eight points, whereas Burnley can go 15th with a win.

Eric Bailly is set to return for Man Utd after missing the Red Devils’ last four matches following a positive Coronavirus test.

Marcus Rashford (foot) is a doubt and could join Phil Jones plus Anthony Martial (both knee) on the sidelines.

Burnley could welcome Jay Rodriguez back after the striker missed last weekend’s defeat to Newcastle for personal reasons.

Nick Pope (shoulder), Kevin Long (calf) and Dwight McNeil (knock) meanwhile are all doubts, whilst Robbie Brady (Achilles) and Ashley Barnes (thigh) are ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Man Utd are unbeaten in four of their last five meetings against Burnley (W3, D1, L1).
  • Burnley are unbeaten in their last four away trips to Man Utd (W1, D3), scoring twice in their last three clashes at Old Trafford.
  • Burnley’s Chris Wood has scored once in each of his last two visits to Old Trafford.
  • Marcus Rashford has scored in three of Man Utd’s last five home games in the Premier League (W4, D1).
  • Burnley have won their only previous away game refereed by Jonathan Moss this season, defeating Everton 2-1 in mid March.

Prediction

Having been made to work for their home win over Granada on Thursday after showing strong creative attacking in their league win at Tottenham last Sunday, this should be an interesting clash for Utd who know that a win will put the pressure back on City until Wednesday evening.

Burnley meanwhile could well come into this game feeling the pressure if Fulham win earlier on Sunday afternoon, although they can take heart from their solid form at Old Trafford in recent visits but defensive focus will be key given recent lapses in concentration proving costly.

On that note, I expect to see a competitive game because Man Utd will certainly be ringing the changes , whereas Burnley will just give it their everything but unless they can tighten up their focus, I can’t see them winning this.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Burnley

Result: Manchester United 3-1 Burnley
