2020-21 UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals: Second Leg – Chelsea vs Porto

Chelsea and Porto again meet on neutral territory at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Seville, Spain, in the second leg of their Quarter Final tie in 2020-21 UEFA Champions League.

Having claimed a 2-0 victory in the first leg, Chelsea know that anything other than a defeat of three goals or more will see them through to the semi finals.

Porto meanwhile need two goals to at least take this to extra time but must win by three or more goals in order to advance, even if the aggregate result boils down to the away goals rule.

Andreas Christiansen is a major doubt for Chelsea with a hamstring injury sustained in training, prior to Saturday’s 4-1 away win at Crystal Palace.

Thiago Silva returns after serving a domestic one match ban at Selhurst Park.

Porto have no fresh injury concerns as Mouhamed Mbaye (knee) and Ivan Marcano (unspecified) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won five of their last six meetings against Porto (W5, L1).
  • Porto have lost all four ‘away’ matches against Chelsea (L4), failing to score in their last such games.
  • Three of Chelsea’s 19 Champions League goals this season have come in the 90th minute or later, courtesy of Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud and Emerson.
  • Sergio Oliveira has scored three away goals in Champions League for Porto this season.
  • Clement Turpin is refereeing a game involving Chelsea and Porto for the first time this season.

Prediction

Having finally delivered a ruthless display under Thomas Tuchel in which they thrashed Crystal Palace on Saturday, Chelsea can come into this game full of confidence and if they continue their aggressive pressing, I can see them comfortably winning this game.

Porto meanwhile have it all to do so will need the same spirit that they showed in the second leg away of their Last 16 tie at Juventus last month, coupled with a strong defensive display to keep Chelsea out if are to turn this around.

I however am going for a Chelsea win because they cannot afford to let Saturday’s step forward go to waste, especially before they face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final on Saturday evening so should have enough to get victory here.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Porto

Result: Chelsea 0-1 Porto (Chelsea win 2-1 on aggregate!!)
