F1 Unveil Details of Jeddah Street Circuit For Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Formula One have unveiled details concerning the Jeddah Street Circuit which is set to host the maiden Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from 3-5 December 2021.

The circuit will feature a ‘fast-flowing layout’ containing 27 corners and has the potential to contain three separate Drag Reduction System (DRS) zones, in turn increasing the possibility of overtaking with average speeds expected to reach around 250km/h.

Corners will contain a mixture of ‘high-speed esses and chicanes’ along with several full throttle sections, which is expected to make it the fastest street circuit on the F1 calendar.

This circuit is located on the Red Sea and 12km geographically north of Jeddah’s centre and will be 6.175km in length.

F1 Managing Director Motorsport, Ross Brawn iterated his hope that this track will be one that ‘provides exciting wheel-to-wheel racing’ and ‘challenges’ drivers to their maximum limit with fast-flowing sections whilst extracting the best of a modern street circuit.

HRH Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal, Saudi Automobile & Motorsport President has spoken of how he is ‘looking forward to hosting F1 in Jeddah in December, although he views this event as ‘further confirmation’ of Saudi Arabia’s ability to host sporting events to high standards for fans and ‘growing young population.’

This circuit has been designed by Hermann Tilke and his team at Tilke GmbH & Co. KG who has already designed various F1 circuits from Baku to Buddah and Sepang.

Here is an on-board simulation of the new Jeddah Street Circuit which F1 has tweeted.
