2020-21 Premier League: Week 28 – Leicester vs Sheffield United

Leicester City look to continue their bid for Champions League football as they welcome Sheffield United to the King Power Stadium on Super Sunday.

Victory would lift Leicester into second until Sunday evening whereas Sheffield Utd can move to within one point of second-bottom West Brom with a win.

Jonny Evans is available for Leicester after recovering from a calf injury plaguing the Northern Ireland defender in recent weeks.

Ayoze Perez (knee) and Dennis Praet (hamstring) could also feature but Harvey Barnes, James Justin (both knee), Wes Morgan (back), James Maddison (hip) and Cengiz Under (thigh) is ruled out.

Sheffield Utd could welcome Phil Jagielka back from an one match ban following his suspension for last weekend’s loss to Southampton.

Chris Basham (muscle), John Egan (ankle), Sander Berge (hamstring), Jack Robinson, Jack Rodwell (both unspecified) and Jack O’Connell (knee) are all ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have won all three Premier League meetings against Sheffield Utd (W3).
  • Sheffield Utd have won just one of their last six away trips to Leicester (W1, D1, L4).
  • Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy have scored a combined four of Leicester’s six Premier League goals against Sheffield Utd.
  • Two of Sheffield Utd’s six away league goals this season have come from David McGoldrick.
  • Just one of Youri Tielemans’ seven goals for Leicester in all competitions has come at the King Power Stadium.

Prediction

Leicester will certainly be looking for an improved performance here with Perez and Praet set to return because they looked awfully sluggish in their comeback win at Brighton last weekend, especially with loose movement in midfield plus slow defending at times.

Sheffield Utd meanwhile come into this game amidst serious confusion concerning Chris Wilder’s future with rumoured interest from Celtic plus reports he is set to be sacked, so it will be hard to predict what we can expect from the Blades here mentally but they need to improve their defending after a woeful display last weekend against Southampton and attack more.

I however feel like this will be a home win simply because of Leicester’s superior quality even if they need to buck up their ideas without Maddison and Barnes available, especially given that Sheffield Utd’s players might be slightly underprepared following this week’s confusion.

Prediction: Leicester City 2-0 Sheffield United

Result: Leicester City 5-0 Sheffield United
