EFL Announces Key Dates for 2021-22 Season

English Football League (EFL) have announced key dates for the 2021-22 season which will get underway across the weekend of 6-9 August 2021.

Majority of opening weekend matches across Sky Bet Championship plus Leagues One and Two will take place on Saturday 7 August, although it is highly likely that at least one match will be kick off the season on Friday 6 August live on Sky Sports.

There is also the possibility that further EFL games on the opening weekend could be televised across 7-9 August too, akin to recent broadcasting patters in recent seasons.

League One will conclude their regular season across the weekend of 30 April – 1 May 2022 with their Play-Off Final scheduled at Wembley Stadium for Saturday 21 May 2022.

Championship and League Two will meanwhile finish their regular seasons a week later across 7-8 May 2022, with League Two holding their Play-Off Final on Saturday 28 May 2022 which will be followed by the Championship Play-Off Final circa 24 hours later on Sunday 29 May 2022.

EFL also confirmed that next season’s Carabao Cup will kick off from the week commencing 9 August 2021, with the final returning to its traditional late February date as the showpiece will be held at Wembley on Sunday 27 February 2022.

Papa John’s Trophy for clubs in Leagues One and Two will get underway from the week commencing on 30 August 2021, with the Final of that competition pencilled in for Sunday 3 April 2022 which sees a return to its usual early April date.

EFL will announce details regarding the fixture release date in due course which could well indicate that a return to the traditional 9am (BST) unveiling in mid to late June could potentially be on the cards.
