Wolves welcome Southampton to Molineux in their all Premier League tie in Fifth Round of 2020-21 FA Cup.
Wolves have advanced from three of their last five appearances at this stage of the FA Cup, whereas Southampton have progressed from just one of their last five Fifth Round ties.
Team News
Daniel Podence is ruled out for Wolves with an adductor injury which forced him to miss Sunday’s goalless draw against Leicester.
Willy Boly (hamstring) joins Rayan Ait Nouri, Fernando Marcal (both groin), Raul Jimenez (head) on sidelines.
Southampton will welcome Kyle Walker Peters back from a thigh injury which kept him out of their last three matches.
Stuart Armstrong, Ibrahima Diallo (both muscle), Alexandre Jankewitz (suspension), Theo Walcott (hamstring), Michael Obafemi (undisclosed) and Will Smallbone (knee) remain ruled out.
Stat Attack
- Wolves have won two of four previous FA Cup ties against Southampton (W2, L2).
- Southampton have won one of three previous FA Cup trips to Molineux, although they failed to score on last two visits in this competition (W1, L2).
- Wolves are yet to score a FA Cup goal after half time this season.
- Southampton have scored twice in each of their last four away FA Cup games, excluding matches held at Wembley Stadium.
- Wolves are unbeaten in three of last five FA Cup clashes against top flight opposition (W2, D1, L2).
Prediction
Wolves will come into this match buoyed by their recent home performances yet were unlucky to not win on Sunday, because they were really dangerous driving up the flanks and Fabio Silva wasted a golden opportunity from just yards out.
Southampton meanwhile bounced back from last week’s nine goal mauling at Manchester United with a positive performance at Newcastle on Saturday, although defensive errors proved costly despite looking dangerous going forward and from free-kicks.
I therefore can see a physical encounter here between two solid Premier League teams packed with plenty of goalmouth action, but I am going for a Southampton win because they do look the stronger when it comes to scoring more than once in games given Wolves’ inconsistency.
Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Southampton
Result: Wolves 0-2 Southampton
