Ellie Roebuck has signed a new three year contract to stay at Manchester City Women until Summer 2024.
Roebuck made her City debut during the 2016-17 season and has since gone on to displace Karen Bardsley as first-choice goalkeeper, culminating in a nomination for the Best FIFA Goalkeeper alongside top names like Alyssa Naeher and Hedvig Lindahl amongst other stars.
The 21 year-old is ‘delighted’ to sign the new contract and is happy to secure her future at the club, saying; “It’s really exciting to know that my future lies at City for the next three years – my time here so far has flown by and I can’t wait for what is to come.”
Roebuck added that the new deal to her is evidence that City ‘have shown their faith’ in her and provides ‘a massive boost’ to her confidence.
Speaking on whether she could of moved elsewhere to further her career, Roebuck was assertive that the Citizens is where she wanted to stay, as she said: “City is the place I want to be – it’s where I see myself developing as a player, so I’m very happy to have it all sorted.”
In her time at City, Roebuck has won six domestic club titles including two consecutive FA Cup crowns in which her second came in a dramatic extra-time win over Everton in November’s Final.
City manager, Gareth Taylor is ‘really pleased’ that Roebuck as signed a new contract, saying: “We are really pleased to secure Ellie’s future with us and look forward to seeing her add to the continued success she has had so far here at Manchester City in the years to come.”
Managing Director of City’s Women team, Gavin Makel is ‘delighted’ to have Roebuck commit her future to the club, having been a part of the team since joining their youth academy as a teenager.
Makel in particular praised the England international for her hard-work to develop into a top player and believes that she can improve further, saying: “I know that she has the drive and hunger in wanting to continue to progress and I am excited to see what her future holds.”
Roebuck became the first inaugural winner of the Women’s Super League’s Golden Glove award last season, despite the season being curtailed early on a points-per-game basis due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
City currently sit third in the Women’s Super League this season five points behind Manchester United and league leaders – Chelsea.
