2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week 26 – Wednesday

Swansea City welcome Brentford to the Liberty Stadium in a blockbuster promotion showdown in the Sky Bet Championship.

At least one point would put Swansea back up to second whereas Brentford can leapfrog the Swans with a win and go into the top two for the first time this season.

Liam Cullen is a doubt for Swansea after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest, in which he netted a brace.

Wayne Routledge (calf) is also a doubt and could join long-term absentees; Steven Benda, Brandon Cooper (both ankle) and Tivonge Rushesha (knee) on sidelines.

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank will again rotate his squad after their FA Cup exit to Leicester on Sunday, having made several changes for that game with Ivan Toney set to return from suspension.

Pontus Jansson, Christian Norgaard (both ankle) and Shandon Baptiste (knee)  remain on sidelines.

Prediction

Swansea were simply stunning in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Forest with five superb goals and real confidence around their play from the get-go, which Brentford’s defence needs to be wary of if want to avoid conceding early given their poor away form in this fixture.

Speaking of Brentford, their league form is impressive and if they were to lose Ivan Toney’s services up front, Sunday’s match was the ideal game because this season is congested and an early FA Cup exit despite fighting hard will only benefit them in terms of fixture congestion.

Avoiding conceding early though will be crucial for the visitors because if Brentford can weather early attacking storms from Swansea, they could stand a good chance here of getting a draw if not the win otherwise they probably are set for a difficult away trip to Swansea if concede early on.

Prediction: Swansea 1-1 Brentford

Result: Swansea 1-1 Brentford
