National League North’s Chorley look to claim their biggest giant killing yet as they welcome Wolves of Premier League to Victory Park in Friday Night Football, kicking off the Fourth Round weekend of 2020-21 FA Cup.
Victory for Chorley or Wolves would see the winners host Southampton or Arsenal in the Fifth Round.
Lewis Reilly is a doubt for Chorley after suffering a knock during Saturday’s 3-2 home win over Farsley Celtic.
Jonathan Ustabasi could be in contention to feature after signing for the hosts on loan from Stalybridge Celtic earlier this week.
Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report as Fernando Marcal and Daniel Podence remain sidelined with respective groin and calf injuries, although the pair are nearing full fitness but this match is likely to come too soon.
Raul Jimenez (head) and Jonny (knee) remain ruled out.
- Chorley are unbeaten in three previous FA Cup meetings against Wolves (W1, D2), with all three clashes coming in 1986-87 season where Chorley won after a second replay following 1-1 draws in first two matches.
- Wolves are visiting Victory Park for the first time after their two previous FA Cup away ties against Chorley were held at Bolton’s former home – Burnden Park.
- Only one of Connor Hall’s three goals in the FA Cup this season for Chorley has come before half-time.
- Wolves are unbeaten in four of their last five FA Cup ties away at lower league opposition (W1, D3, L1).
Chorley have enjoyed a brilliant FA Cup run but they are going to need to be at their best here, because if they can get in Wolves’ faces and physically cause issues then they will have a shot at causing their biggest cupset yet.
Wolves meanwhile are a strong team going forward but defending have been their weakness in recent games, which West Brom were able to expose to their advantage by applying constant pressure both on and off the ball which lured Wolves’ defence into sloppy challenges.
Playing on a Non-League ground though will be a new challenge for many of Wolves’ players so if Chorley are to have a chance, they need to score first and ideally early before the visitors can adapt and control this game otherwise I can see an away win coming here.
Prediction: Chorley 1-2 Wolves
Result: Chorley 0-1 Wolves
