2020-21 Premier League: Week 18b – Leicester vs Chelsea

Leicester City welcome Chelsea to the King Power Stadium in a huge Tuesday Night Football clash from the Premier League.

Victory could move Leicester top of the table whereas Chelsea look to go sixth with a win.

Jamie Vardy is a doubt for Leicester after his hip injury flared up towards the conclusion of Saturday’s home win over Southampton.

Nampalys Mendy (neck) is also a potential doubt and could join Dennis Praet (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Chelsea could welcome Andreas Christiansen back from a knee injury, which saw the defender miss their West London derby victory over Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage.

N’Golo Kante is a doubt as he continues to struggle with a hamstring strain but could be handed a late fitness test.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester are unbeaten in their last five league meetings against Chelsea (W1, D4).
  • Chelsea have lost just one of their last five league trips to Leicester (W2, D2, L1).
  • Both teams have converted one penalty attempt apiece in 28 Premier League meetings.
  • Blues’ Mason Mount has converted 10 of his 34 shots onto target this season, of which just two found the net.
  • Leicester’s James Maddison has scored two left-footed league goals in 16 appearances this season, compared to two goals on left foot in 31 appearances last campaign.

Prediction

Leicester produced a cracking dominant performance against Southampton on Saturday in terms of attacking intent mixed with high pressing, which in turn left them exposed at times if not for Kasper Schmeichel’s excellent goalkeeping.

Chelsea produced a similar performance at Fulham but continuously wasted chances, whereas the Foxes just need to be patient with their shot making as could of easily of defeated the Saints by more than two goals if were less careless with their shots.

Recent league meetings though have often been closely contested but after omitting Kai Havertz from Saturday’s squad and utilising Timo Werner as a substitute, I wonder if Chelsea might be eying this game as winnable although I can see Brendan Rogers’ Foxes digging in for a valuable point.

Prediction: Leicester 1-1 Chelsea

Result: Leicester 2-0 Chelsea
