Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey Signs New Contract Until June 2025

Tariq Lamptey has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract to stay at Brighton & Hove Albion until June 2025.

Since making his senior debut for Brighton in a goalless away draw at Leicester in June as part of Premier League’s Project Restart, Lamptey has become a key player in the Seagulls’ defence and graduated into the England U21s squad in the autumn.

Speaking on securing Lamptey until June 2025, Brighton’s Head Coach – Graham Potter said; “We are delighted to see Tariq commit his long-term future here.”

Potter also spoke of Lamptey’s ‘positive impact’ upon the club, saying; “We knew his potential when we signed him a year ago, and hoped he would have a really positive impact on the club, and that has proved to be the case with his performances since June.

“He has been the model professional, he works exceptionally hard, is a humble lad and is a team player. He fits in with everything we would want from a player, now it’s about helping him reach his potential.”

Technical Director, Dan Ashworth meanwhile praised Lamptey for how he has adapted to the rigors of Premier League football having previously made one appearance for Chelsea in December 2019 at Arsenal, saying; “It shows how well Tariq has adjusted to the demands of Premier League football.”

Ashworth consequently feels that Lamptey ‘deserves the new contract’ and pointed to the 20 year-old’s ‘hard work and performances’ as two reasons behind the decision to award him with a new contract.

Ashworth also spoke of this contract being beneficial for both club and player as he said; “It now gives him and the club the opportunity to continue on the path he has started on since he joined last January.”

Brighton are next in action on 23 January as they welcome Blackpool to the Amex Stadium in the Fourth Round of this season’s FA Cup, although Lamptey is currently absent with a hamstring injury.
