Stuart Armstrong Signs New Southampton Deal Until Summer 2024

Stuart Armstrong has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract to extend his stint at Southampton until June 2024.

Armstrong has scored 11 goals in 78 appearances across all competitions for the Saints since joining from Celtic in June 2018, with seven goals coming in 2020 alone.

Speaking on his decision to extend his stay at St Mary’s Stadium, Armstrong said; “I’m very happy. It’s a great group, we’re doing well, it’s very positive, and to extend my time here and be part of the club going into the future is something I’m very happy about.”

Armstrong also praised the positive atmosphere and future direction around the team, saying; “It’s a great club to be a part of and it’s a club that has a feel of positivity and heading in the right direction.”

Saints Manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl spoke of how “very happy” he is to secure Armstrong until June 2024 and praised the Scottish midfielder’s quality, saying; “Stuart is a very smart player and is someone who is important for our team.”

On deploying Armstrong in the number ten position and his progress, Hasenhuttl said; “He has become more comfortable and confident playing in the number ten position, and it has been pleasing to see the development he has made as a result of the work he has done with us on this.

“I think he is someone who can continue to improve and make a very positive contribution for us here in the future, so it is good for the club and for him also to sign this deal.”

Armstrong is the latest of several Southampton players to pledge their futures to the club so far this season, with Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Jan Bednarek and Will Smallbone amongst those to sign new contracts.

Southampton currently sit ninth in the Premier League and just seven points behind table-topping Liverpool.
