Brentford will look to claim a fifth straight Premier League scalp as they draw Tottenham Hotspur away in their first-ever semi-final of a major cup competition.

Having knocked out Southampton, West Brom and Fulham to reach the last eight, Joshua Dasilva’s 66th minute strike saw the Bees stun Newcastle to progress to the semi-finals, where they will face Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a London Derby.

This is the fourth time that Brentford have drawn Spurs in the League Cup, having failed to progress from three previous meetings of which were all two-legged ties after taking one draw and five defeats from those six clashes.

Manchester United’s reward dumping Everton out of the competition is a second consecutive semi-final tie against Manchester City as the three-time reigning champions progressed after thumping Arsenal 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium in their Quarter-Final match.

Both semi-finals will be held across one leg instead of the traditional two legged ties this season to aid with concerns of fixture congestion.

With Premier League fixtures for the New Year weekend already announced, it has been confirmed that the Manchester Derby will be played on Wednesday 6 January 2021.

Tottenham will therefore play host to second-tier Brentford on Tuesday 5 January 2021 in their very first one-legged League Cup meeting, with kick-off times for both matches to be announced in due course.

The winners of both ties will advance to the Final at Wembley Stadium, which has been postponed from Sunday 28 February to Sunday 25 April 2021 with a 4pm (BST) start in hope of ensuring that the showpiece can take place “… with as many supporters in attendance as possible…”

EFL Organisers however iterated that the numbers of spectators allowed into Wembley Stadium will be dependent on ‘Government guidance in place at the time’ hence belief that moving the Final back two months to late April will give the finalists and fans the best possible opportunity to attend in person.
