RB Leipzig meet Manchester United at Red Bull Arena in a crunch Group H clash in final round of group matches in 2020-21 UEFA Champions League.
RB Leipzig must take victory if they want to qualify which would send Man Utd into the Europa League, whereas the Red Devils can qualify with a point irrespective of whether they win the group or not depending on PSG’s result.
Leipzig have no fresh injury concerns to report as Hwang Hee-chan remains absent with Coronavirus.
Lukas Klosterman, Fabrice Hartmann, Benjamin Henrichs and Konrad Laimer are all absent with knee injuries.
Man Utd could welcome Luke Shaw (hamstring) and David De Gea (knock) back into the starting eleven.
Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial however miss out with “minor niggles” as they were left behind at Carrington alongside Phil Jones (knee) and Fred (suspension).
- RB Leipzig lost their only previous meeting against Manchester United, losing 5-0 in late October at Old Trafford.
- Man Utd have won two of their last five trips to Germany (W2, L3).
- Angelino is the only RB Leipzig player to have scored twice in Champions League this season despite the German club scoring eight goals.
Since returning from November’s international break, RB Leipzig’s defence has collapsed with eight goals conceded, of which six came in their last two outings despite still showing strong attacking quality up front.
Man Utd however can’t exactly boast of stronger form because they too have been inconsistent at times but their last two league performances have shown that they are dangerous once conceded the first goal, so Leipzig will need to be careful here if want to get that vital win.
This could therefore get tense given what is at stake for both clubs but I am going for an away win if Utd can bring their domestic quality into this European outing and deliver a strong performance and end their hosts’ impressive home form.
Prediction: RB Leipzig 1-2 Manchester United
Result: RB Leipzig 3-2 Manchester United
