Rangers welcome Standard Liege to Ibrox in a huge Group D clash in 2020-21 UEFA Europa League.
Victory will see Rangers qualify for the knockout stage for a second consecutive season, whereas Liege need a win to keep their qualification hopes alive heading into the final round of group matches next week.
Rangers will be without Filip Helander after the centre-back tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of Sunday’s Scottish League Cup win over Falkirk.
Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack are doubts after sitting out Gers’ last two matches with knocks whilst Nikola Katic (knee) remain absent.
Liege have no fresh injury concerns to report but Obbi Oulare is suspended after being sent off last week against Lech Poznan.
- Rangers have won two of three previous meetings against Standard Liege, of which both wins came as 2-0 results.
- Liege lost their only previous trip to Rangers, losing 2-0 in Quarter Finals of 1961-62 European Cup but prevailed 4-3 on aggregate.
- Gers have scored first in three of their four Group D games this season.
Rangers will be relieved to come into this match still unbeaten after two difficult but entertaining games against Benfica of which they will of learned a lot defensively, especially after last week’s late home meltdown to blow a two goal lead and draw 2-2.
Liege meanwhile came from behind to defeat Lech Poznan last week with ten men in a scrappy encounter but they will have to make huge improvements here against a solid Rangers team who just can’t stop scoring this season in all competitions with just one goalless draw which came back in August domestically.
This game therefore should definitely see goals but unless Liege can show stronger quality in the finishing department, I can see an one-sided result coming at Ibrox.
Prediction: Rangers 2-0 Standard Liege
Result: Rangers 3-2 Standard Liege
