Israel welcome Scotland to Netanya Stadium, Netanya, in a huge match at opposite ends of League B2 in 2020-21 UEFA Nations League.
Israel know that victory will guarantee them survival whereas a draw or defeat would require Slovakia to match their result across in their match against Czech Republic, whilst Scotland can seal promotion with a win otherwise they need Czech Republic to lose.
Should Czech Republic however draw against Slovakia and Scotland lose in Israel, the Tartan Army would be promoted by virtue of their better head-to-head record over the Czechs.
Hatem Abd Elhamed is suspended for Israel after being red-carded in their defeat against Czech Republic on Sunday, representing the only absentee for the hosts.
Scotland have no fresh injury or suspension concerns to report as Lyndon Dykes looks set for a recall to the starting lineup after serving a one match ban in Sunday’s defeat in Slovakia.
- Israel are unbeaten in two of three previous Nations League meetings against Scotland (W1, D1, L1).
- Scotland have won three of four previous trips to Israel in all competitions (W3, L1).
- Israel have scored once in each of their last three home games in all competitions, although two of those three goals have come after the 87th minute.
After the drama of qualifying for Euro 2020 on penalties last Thursday, Scotland could of been forgiven for being off form on Sunday but they produced another strong performance in Slovakia, even though a momentary lapse coupled with excellent goalkeeping denied them a point against a difficult Slovakian team.
Israel meanwhile have been quite a tough team for Scotland to face in this competition and didn’t disgrace themselves in the Czech Republic on Sunday evening, so I am expecting another difficult test here for Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army in terms of breaking down defences.
Scotland however are unbeaten in nine of their last ten matches and with Euro 2020 qualification sealed, I have a feeling that they will want to send a message that they won’t be easy opposition against difficult teams and a fighting win over Israel will do that heading into 2021.
Prediction: Israel 1-2 Scotland
Result: Israel 1-0 Scotland
