Rangers look to go top in Group D in 2020-21 Europa League as they welcome Poland’s Lech Poznan to Ibrox.
Victory could send Rangers top of the group if Benfica fail to match Gers’ result in their match against Standard Liege whilst a win for Poznan could see Rangers slip out of the two knockout qualification spots.
Borna Barisic is unlikely to be risked for Rangers after a thigh injury kept the Croatian out of Sunday’s win over Livingston on Sunday.
Nikola Katic (knee) and Bongani Zungu (fitness) are both ruled out, although Zungu could be available for next Thursday’s trip to Benfica if he can prove his match fitness after his self-isolation finishes.
Poznan have a near full squad available for selection but Pedro Tiba is a doubt with a thigh injury which saw him sit out Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Cracovia in Ekstraklasa.
- This is Rangers’ first-ever clash against Lech Poznan in all competitions, although Gers have won two of three previous clashes against Polish opposition in all UEFA competitions (W2, L1).
- Poznan’s Mikael Ishak has scored five goals in three of his five Europa League appearances so far this campaign.
- Rangers’ James Tavernier has scored once in each of all four Europa League matches so far this season.
Rangers definitely will view this as an winnable game because they’re playing so well at the minute in terms of pressing and following up blocked chances on top of high energy tempo tactics, which seem to suit them nicely given their unbeaten form this season.
Poznan however showed in their match against Benfica last week that they can play a good high energy tempo themselves when in possession but their defending at times was poor with spacing issues, which has to be something that Rangers need to punish if they’re to win this match.
I am therefore predicting goals in what should be a nervy cracker of a contest but if Rangers can keep their cool and defend well, they should have enough for victory.
Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Lech Poznan
Result: Rangers 1-0 Lech Poznan
