Liverpool look to continue their strong start to life in Group D as they welcome Denmark’s Midtjylland to Anfield in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
Victory could send Liverpool top of the group depending on Atalanta’s result against Ajax whilst Midtjylland look to move off the foot of Group D’s standings with at least a point.
Liverpool could welcome Naby Keita back after the midfielder was left out of Saturday’s win over Sheffield United as he continues to rebuild his fitness, following self-isolation after a positive Coronavirus test.
Thiago Alcantara (knee), Konstantinos Tsimikas (thigh) and Joel Matip (muscle) are also in contention to feature if proved fit.
Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are definitely ruled out with knee injuries.
Midtjylland have no fresh injury concerns to report.
- This is Liverpool’s first-ever meeting against Midtjylland in all competitions.
- Liverpool are unbeaten in three of four previous meetings against Danish opposition (W2, D1, L1).
- Midtjylland have won three of six previous meetings against English opposition (W3, D1, L2).
Liverpool produced a solid display to defeat Ajax last Wednesday but their domestic performance against Sheffield United highlighted how vulnerable their defending can be at times, especially when wingbacks get past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson which should offer Midtjylland hope if they get their tactics right.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds however do have attacking quality which I just can’t see the visitors beating unless they produce an epic performance, which I seriously don’t see happening but a routing could be possible if they aren’t careful defensively.
Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Midtjylland
Result: Liverpool 2-0 Midtjylland
