Having fought their way through three Qualifying rounds, Tottenham Hotspur begin their Group J campaign against LASK at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs are favourites to progress from a group also containing Ludogorets Razgrad and Antwerp and victory here will provide them with a confidence boost given the quality of their squad.
Giovani Lo Celso is expected to be available for Tottenham after recovering from a hamstring injury which kept him out of Sunday’s 3-3 draw in Premier League against West Ham.
Eric Dier (thigh) is a doubt but could face a late fitness test alongside Erik Lamela (knock) but Japhet Tanganga (thigh) is ruled out.
LASK have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad available for selection.
- This is Tottenham’s first-ever meeting against LASK in all competitions.
- Tottenham are unbeaten in four previous matches against Austrian opposition (W3, D1).
- LASK lost their only previous meeting against English opposition, which came against Manchester United in Last 16 of last season’s Europa League – losing 7-1 on aggregate.
Tottenham come into this match with a massive point to prove concerning their home form after blowing a three goal lead on Sunday against West Ham in the closing minutes but if they can start well like they have often done at home, it is hard to see them losing unless their defence has another breakdown of shambolic levels.
LASK meanwhile did a great job of making Man Utd work for their win in their last visit to English soil so if they can turn up and immediately take the match to Spurs’ defence, this could get very interesting from a spectator perspective.
Son Heung-min and Harry Kane however are currently in strong form which should be enough for the hosts to scrape a win.
Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 LASK
Result: Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 LASK
